There are still people in the chatroom wrimobuddies, so pop in and say hi, get some word wars in, and get some help and encouragement while you're writing!
Sometimes, it's so disappointing that NaNo requires that you write 50,000 words directly relevant to your novel. I spent half an hour tonight working on a paper due in a few weeks, which totaled about 1,000 words right there! Unfortunately, those don't count, so I'm still working slowly but surely towards 50k.
This year, half my novel is apparently going to revolve around the Western Zodiac, so I had to turn to Wikipedia and Google during my half hour of writing time tonight to look up the order of the signs and the attributes of Pisces. What's something you've had to look up for your novel? The most important thing? The weirdest thing? Someone in chat tonight needed to know the dimensions of a submarine, for instance.
That being said, does anyone out there know a lot about the Western Zodiac?
Hope everyone is doing well with their word counts! Feel free to keep us updated on your progress!

Anyways, I've fallen a bit behind with nano. This past week has been busy, not giving me as much time to write. I did get some time to myself today, and spent a few hours writing. I ended up with 4094 words today, for a total of 21,472 on my draft (33 pages single spaced). It's not the 25k I should have as of today, but I'm not as far behind as I was before. I was just under 4k while finishing up the last scene for the day, when I decided to add some extra thoughts for the character, so I could get to the 4k (it was my aim for today).
Behind or not, I am really liking how the story is going so far. I made it to the point where my main character has put the pieces in place so she can fall for the red-herring. (Yes, SF mystery). I've also gotten another scene in from the perp's point of view. It's kind of fun writing from his POV, to set the stage for what my MC is going to be in for, and putting up a smoke screen around real clues. I haven't read much science fiction, but I've read lots of mystery novels, so I feel comfortable with the mystery aspects of the novel. (I am planning on reading more SF after getting through this draft. I just finished Ursula Le Guin's Left Hand of Darkness, and have Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land next on my short list).
When it comes to the SF area of the novel, I want to have the reader feel like it's a different setting then our present day Earth, but I don't want it to seam artificial with extra "sciency" sounding words thrown in for the sake of being there because they sound SF. I want to create an environment that supports the story and characters, without distracting from it. I'm hoping future readers (ha) will have a feel for the novel's time and place without it being to in the foreground. I'm aiming for "reader following my MC around the station as she solves the mystery" rather than "oh look, yet another shiny piece of high technology that a random character happens to be using". When reading Le Guin's novel, the characters were interesting, and I kept reading to see what happened to them. There was enough world building so that the actions of the aliens made sense, and I could almost feel the cold of the world they were on. But it didn't detract from the story at all, the action moved forward and the characters could stand on their own.

This story started as just a random little short story, but I think i'm going to continue it pretty far. Possibly to 100 parts. For now, it's rather PG, but it might get a little less PG later on. It's not 'great' writing, according to my grandmother (it's 'simple'.) I think it's good though, and i'm proud of it. So i'm showing it off.
All the stories are on the same page, because they were all posted on the same day:

Part 3-
Perhaps I should have said something to him…but I couldn’t really think of anything.
This is my first post to this page. I've recently taken up writing again, and hope to gain some usefull tips from here :-)
This story was actually part of an assignment I did for Uni. I really enjoyed it, but unfortunatley had to cut a lot out due to word count limits. I'm considering re-writing it for my own pleasure, but not sure if it's worth it. Any feedback/constructive criticism would be much appreciated!

Yes, that was a poop joke. And yes, I did just compare my reviews to poop. Let's move right along, shall we?
Eclipse Review: Chapters 1-5
Eclipse is the third book in the Twilight series and it continues the needlessly complicated love story of Bella Swan, a clumsy but otherwise normal teenage girl (see: "overly emotional and irrational idiot"), and Edward Cullen, a sparkily vampire (see: "author's wet dream"). The book opens with Bella reading a note from her other boy-toy, Jacob the Werewolf, which tells her that he still doesn't want to play nice with the vampire, which means no three-way for her. Lucky, otherwise Laurel K Hamilton might have sued for copyright violation.
Bella is dragged out of her fantasising by the smell of a burning plot-development, and she ventures into the kitchen to discover that Charlie has attempted to cook spaghetti. This has simultaneously reminded me of two things, so I'll attempt to code a list:
- I have actually witnessed someone failing to cook spaghetti before. A couple of years ago my cousin,
peterchayward, was boiling water for the pasta when he managed to set a box of tea-bags on fire. - Everyone in the Smeyer universe over the age of 26 are mostly incompetent.
For the past several months, Bella has been under house arrest for the crime of failing to kill herself and running off to Europe without leaving a note. Charlie's attempt at dinner was his way of telling Bella that she is provisionally un-grounded. His only condition is that she spend time with people other than Edward.
And speaking of creepy paedophiles with absolutely no realistic attractive qualities whatsoever, it's 16 pages into the book and he is yet to make an appea- oh, there's the doorbell.
I was actually beginning to enjoy this book for reasons other than making fun of it; the writing wasn't too bad, Bella hadn't "adorably" fallen over anything and I wasn't yet drowning in an ocean of similes. I had forgotten just how annoying the pages and pages describing Edward's beauty and perfection were. Page 17 (and 18, and 19) reminded me. Over and over again.
When Bella is finally able to think about something other than just how perfect Edward is, the two move onto discussing more trivial things; like college, Bella becoming a vampire, the killings in Seattle, more about college and how Bella is banned from visiting Jacob. More specifically: how Edward has banned Bella from visiting Jacob.
You see, Edward just cares so very much about Bella, and is so very concerned about her safety, that he has taken it upon himself to decide who she can and can't visit. It's not possessive or creepy though, because he's doing it all to "protect" her.
To quote the book itself:
"I'm not going to go along with that. I have to see Jacob."
"Then I'll have to stop you."
He sounded utterly confidant that this wouldn't be a problem.
I was sure he was right.
Here's a tip for all the girls out there: If your boyfriend starts deciding which of your friends you can and can't visit, he may be what we in the profession call "An Over-Possessive Bastard". My advice to you is: drop that vampiric freak like a sack of pin-less grenades and run like hell. If he then removes a piece of your fricking engine so that you can't run away: start sleeping with a wooden stake under your pillow.
After Edward's adopted sister, Alice, has a vision of the future he insists that Bella flies with him to Phoenix to visit her mother for a weekend. Naturally, he lies about what the vision was in order to "protect" her. Because he's just so nice.
At this point I would like to complain about something other than the ridiculous characters and plot of this book, and that is Smeyer's tendency to skip exciting action and just have characters talk about it later. She has done this twice now in the first 5 chapters: once when Edward and Bella go to visit his family, and again when the two skip town to visit Bella's mother, Renee.
The saying "Show, don't tell" is there for a reason.
After she returns from Phoenix, Bella finds out from Jacob (who is suddenly talking to her again) that Victoria, the only remaining evil vampire from the first book, was in town that weekend. This was the true subject of Alice's dream, which Edward thought Bella would be better off not knowing.
In retaliation, Bella runs off and spends a day with Jacob on the Indian reserve. While there, Jacob hits on Bella a lot, insults her boyfriend and his family, laughs at her fears and concerns and generally acts like an ass. Is it any wonder that Bella decided not to dump Captain Bi-Polar for him?
Jacob also explains "Imprinting", a special way that werewolves find their one true love. This will become more important, and creepy, as the book continues.
Title: Lumina & Sparky
Fandom: None (original work ^_^)
Genre: Fairytale... sort of.
Rating: G, I guess. But don't read this to little kids ^.^;
Pairing: None.
Sort-of summary: Fairytales start with "once upon a time" and end with "they lived happily ever after". Well, this story does too. But I can't really stamp it as a fairytale.
Real summary: Lumina and Sparky are two stuffed bunnies. Their owner deserts them, so they decide to venture out to the outside world. But when they make a simple little bet, their little bunny lives are changed forever.
Warning: Sucky writing. Well, that's because it's not supposed to be written nicely. It's supposed to be written like a real fairytale. But it's not exactly for young children, even though it's about stuffed bunnies. The story was conceived when I was thinking about cannibalism and stuff. Somehow, it's connected to the story. You'll find out soon enough.
Other warning: I talk too much.

Must be both.
Everything is just moving so fast.
Or is it me?
I feel car sick, but I'm not moving.
I'm confused.
My heart is jumping and pounding.
It's throwing a tantrum in my chest.
I can't see anything outside my head anymore.
All I can see is oil mixed with water.
A VanGogh painting of the wind.
What is love?
Love isn't a rational feeling.
Or is it a thing?
If so, it's the best drug I've ever been addicted to.
Maybe I've ODed.
Maybe that's why I'm in rehab.
No. This isn't rehab.
It's my special padded cage.
Love put me here.
They say I'm not allowed to leave my cage.
But they don't know.
My mind goes wherever it wants to.
It wants you.

Slowly but surely! I am still very far behind, obviously, but the less I try to make sense of my novel, the more words come along. I'm sorry I wasn't in chat tonight - the internet in my apartment has decided to start failing, and my laptop, which I write on, wasn't getting a signal. But everyone else should feel free to hop into wrimobuddies on AIM to get in some word wars or some on the fly ideas.
I have been trying to figure out what the optimal "writing drink" for me is. I started with hot chocolate, but quickly discovered that it was both too sweet and too delicious. All I wanted to do was drink and eat cookies! I also tried coffee, but I apparently don't like lukewarm coffee, and kept stopping to heat it up. I think my favorite so far is orange juice, but tonight at
What is your preferred drink while you're writing? I know a bunch of you answered it in the friending meme, but have you changed since starting this month?

About Me; Well by my age I am young, but by my heart and mind I am mature and well experienced in the world surrounding me. I am an animal lover and people lover. Most times when I have a task ahead of me than I over do it rather than just complete it. I love my family and my friends. I tend to be adventurous when it comes to having the options infront of me.
What I read; Mostly murder mysteries because of the on edge effect and suspense, Some fantasy that spikes my interest, and very few but sometimes love stories.
What I don't read; Stories that have no feeling or emtion involved with the writing. I'm an emtional person there has to be some depth in what i read.
What I don't Write; At the momment i'm not writing enough. I need to complete a book soon and I am at a blank, I have no passion to get anything out, I hate the feeling of people relying on me and me not being able to produce anything.
What I'm Looking For; Help, inspiration, and influential knowledge of others experiences in writing that might help me make this book possible.

never have i met you but i think it might be fun
you'd validate the fact that i was not the only one
you have these sorts of interests too - you actually exist!
you're more than just a figment of my social contact list
we'd sit down and we'd talk about our years of endless chatter
serve our private thoughts to one another on a platter
maybe we'll be cool some day and meet at some convention
realize that we're more than freaks who redefine pretension
maybe we could fall in love - now wouldn't that be grand?
we'd do it all in person too - enough of cyberland!
but you could be an asshole - you could smash and break my heart
not that this is what i want - but things do fall apart
what if you went back online and told the world i failed?
that anyone who dated me would get their shit derailed?
cause if you couldn't stand me i'd become your stalker-ex
you'd pretend like you forgot about our endless kinky sex
i'd be another way for you to drop an online friend
you'd macro me on 4chan - that shit would never end
but really now i like you i just don't want any drama
you're the only other poly-goth with babysitter trauma
people like us don't exist - at least outside the net
who else can use the civil war to make their pussy wet?
we really have to meet some day - there's no one else this clever
who cares that i'm a stranger - i've known you forever!

This week's new members:
Welcome to Creative Writer!
This is your official welcome mat, an introduction to the fun which is our
community and an entreaty for you to join in.
How does it work?
Creative Writer is an online version of a writers' group. While writing
itself is usually a solitary occupation, what all writers need is contact
with other people who can give feedback, answer questions and, as with all
professions, provide guidance and a learning environment. While all artists
create their work, they can't create in a vacuum.
A writers group provides that environment. Here you are able to post
excerpts from your work and receive feedback, here you can learn from other
writers, here you can contribute to others, here is a safe place to grow
your talent.
So welcome to Creative Writer! Jump in, have some fun, any questions, feel
free to ask at any time.

It is a well-known fact in any organization that, if you want a job done, you should give it to someone who is already very busy. It has been the cause of a number of homicides, and in one case the death of a senior director from having his head shut repeatedly in quite a small filing cabinet.- No less wise for having been printed with American spelling (we get the Australian printings of the books here).
'Or we could play a game of football, gentlemen,' said Ridcully, clapping his hands together cheerfully. 'One game. That's all. How hard would that be?'- The Archchancellor is here channelling Jeremy Clarkson.

About me: I have been a writer for at least 16-18 years. . . I was in young author has a kid, and it was kewl to see a story you create turned into a book. I am a published poet (www.poetry.com) and a publish playwright (I had play done at college.) I love writing as much as I love music and I use both together quite often. I love the creating process, but dread the editting process. I can edit other's works better than my own. I am still working on trying to get my works published professionally.
What I like: Laughter. Inspiration. Hope. Happiness. Conflicts. Chaos. I love it when I have good song, a can of Dr. Pepper and my mind filled with a million ideas jsut wanting to get written. I love horror. . . blood, ghost, vampires. (Not Twilight. . . vampires do not sparkle.)
What I dislike: People who are super thin and call themselves fat. . . people who are mean, rude and bitchy andstill manage to get whatever they want.
Location: Lorain, and North Ridgeville, Ohio
What I read: I really like a good mystery or horror book. I am also into non-fiction: about the paranormal, occult, and new-age beliefs. . .
What I don't read: Anything that has too much politics and religion in it
Favourite authors: Stephen King, Anne Rice (older Work), Edgar Allen Poe, and Agentha Christie
What I write: Horror, romance, epic stories, scripts, and novel and oh yeah poetry
What I don’t write: I don't know yet. . . I am not that big on Sci-fi
Could you edit someone else's work? I can edit other's work better than I can edit my own.
What I’m looking for: Friends, inspiration, motivation, and encouragement
Personal journal: http://Rebekah1213.livejournal.com (This is my everyday journal. . . please feel free to comment, I try to reply as soon as I can.)
Writing journal: http://Rebekah1725.livejournal.com (It most vampires and ghost stories, but I haven't had much time to post there lately. . . )
Note: I don't mind adding someone who is a writer under the age of 18, but please be mature. My journal do have mature level stuff, and I do not want someone who will act immature about some subjects that are sensitive to me. I am always trying to encourage others and I am looking for more friends with common interests. Please enjoy my journal.
